Cladonia update.

It seems that we may have been a little premature posting an unusual record recently.  A recent find considered to be Cladonia bellidiflora is deemed unlikey to occur on Thorne Moors.   The British Lichen Society map below shows that Cladonia bellidiflora is not present in Yorkshire.

Despite receiving favourable feedback from photographs submitted, other respected licheologists did not consider the record likey and have requested a voucher specimen for microscopical examination.

Cladonia is regarded as a difficult genus to determine and a voucher specimen is advised, along with good quality photographs and a Grid Reference for the find.  Other images taken by Stephen Sharnoff can be viewed here, but are not UK specimens.
